taking a facing direction with a compass: Determine where the most active side of your building is, usually this is the front of the house, facing the street. Stand outside the house at the front door and look toward the street with your compass in your hand. (make sure you have removed your metal jewelry) Align the compass so that the needle is pointing to North on the face. Now, look at the direction your house is facing. Remember, the facing direction of a house is the direction the house would be looking if it had a face.
